About the Youth Wing for Disability Services
  • The Youth Wing for Disability Services (YWDIS) consists of student volunteers of social work departments from various colleges in and around Coimbatore and other parts of the State too to work in the field of disability.
  • The UDIS Forum serves as the Facilitating Agency for the YWDIS.
  • The CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science serves as the nodal agency for YWDIS
  • The Heads of Departments of Social Work of Colleges are invited to be part of the Advisory Committee of the YWDIS.
  • The YWDIS General Body will consist of students in such a way that each college is represented by 2 students each from the first year and the second year.
  • The YWDIS will have elected Executive Committee, except the President, who will be nominated by the nodal agency in consultation with the Advisory Committee.
  • The number of office bearers of the executive committee will be decided by the General Body in consultation with the Advisory Committee, UDIS Forum and the nodal agency.
  • The executive committee will plan activities for one academic year, which may include organising student seminars, essay writing contests, oratorical contests, work with the community, youth rallies, industrial visits to identify jobs for persons with disabilities, school awareness programmes, etc.
  • The UDIS Forum will organise required training to the members of the YWDIS on disability management.
  • The UDIS Forum will facilitate the YWDIS get required resources for organising these activities whereas the nodal agency will communicate with other colleges of social work in the state and enlist student and staff support for carrying out the activities, either in Coimbatore or in other parts of the State/region.
  • When the students of the II year course graduate, they cease to be the members of the YWDIS and the I year students who will get into the second year will take over major administrative positions and new student representatives from the I year will be inducted to the executive committee to provide continuity for the YWDIS.
  • The President of the UDIS Forum and the Principal of the CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science will serve as the Advisors of the YWDIS and there will be one staff coordinator nominated by each organisation to supervise the YWDIS activities.

Inauguration of Ywdis Activities for the year 2011 - 2012 and Swearing in Ceremony of new Office Bearers of Ywdis

The Youth Wing for Disability Services (YWDIS) consists of student volunteers from colleges, who wish to involve in services for persons with disabilities. The youth wing is facilitated by the UDIS Forum with the CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science as the nodal agency. The activities of the Youth Wing are primarily coordinated by an executive committee consisting of student volunteers. At this stage, the Youth Wing and its executive committee consist mostly of post-graduate students from the social work departments of colleges, but all students are encouraged to join the future activities of YWDIS. The activities of YWDIS includes organising student seminars, essay writing contests, oratorical contests, work with the community, youth rallies, industrial visits to identify jobs for persons with disabilities, school awareness programmes, etc. In the past three years the YWDIS has organized several student seminars, essay writing contests, oratorical contests and also oriented more than 13000 college and school students on disability management.

The inauguration of YWDIS activities for the year 2011 - 2012 and the swearing in ceremony of new office bearers of YWDIS was held at CSI Bishop College of Arts and Science on 21 October 2011. Mrs. Mirnalini R David, Principal, CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science administered the oath for the newly elected office bearers. Dr. MNG Mani, President, UDIS Forum presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. The newly elected office bearers and the executive members of YWDIS are as follows,
